One month ago Hosni Mubarak was the best "peace partner" there is for Washington.
Now the billion dollar aid to another Washington proxy might fall.
This is Washington’s response to the popular revolt in Egypt:
Increasing the pressure on Egypt’s leaders, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs suggested that the United States may reduce a USD 1.5 billion program of foreign aid depending on President Hosni Mubarak’s response to the swelling street protests across the country.

My comment:
The 1,5 Billion USD “aid package” is basically the US direct payment to Hosni Mubarak, to keep the Muslim Brotherhood at bay. To keep Mubarak as a military dictator, the US have made it impossible for any sensible opposition to the regime to operate. For Mubarak it has always been “me or chaos”. Now Washington has got exactly that.
Just like in Iran in 1978. Washington did the “wine and dine” with a dictator, they never thought would fall.
